Die Kunst im Deutschen Reich’, is the most important and prestigious art publication produced during the Third Reich.
The magazine was published by Alfred Rosenberg and its chief writer was Robert Scholz, who previously edited the NS arts title ‘Die Völkische Kunst.
It began in January 1937, and the first six issues published were a small size and format. From issue 7, 1937 onwards the format and size changed to its more familiar prestigious style.
Originally called Die Kunst im Dritten Reich (Art in the Third Reich) the title was changed in August 1939 to Die Kunst in Deutschen Reich. The last published issue was September 1944.
Each issue of this large-format magazine was lavishly illustrated and provides a unique insight into the National Socialist approved take on the arts.
